Oh, I love Twitter. It’s simple, it’s straightforward, you know where you’re at, it’s easy to navigate and you have to get your message across in 140 characters or less, so you soak up what everyone has to say in an instant. It’s a great introduction for anyone new to social media. It’s also a perfect way to get your message out there – its much easier, in my opinion, to be interesting or witty in 140 character messages than in unlimited paragraphs! It’s easy to join conversations between people you haven’t interacted with before, simply because of the format. Of course you can manipulate it to a certain extent by being canny about followers using applications such as twellow and twittergrader and you can really ramp up working with it by using tweetspinner but you can be very effective, do loads of networking, get yourself noticed, let people see the real you and promote a product or a website simply by using the original application.
So- what can you do on Twitter – well, you can network, you can socialise, you can engage, you can promote products or sites, you can get answers to questions, you can broadcast information, you can influence opinion and you can set trends. I thought this was a pretty exhaustive list, until I saw this article, which gives a list of 62 ways in which you can use Twitter to promote your business. I would never have come up with a list that long, but it’s really useful – give it a read!
